Why choose DeoriaTal - Chandrashila Trek?

If you’re looking for a beautiful Himalayan trek that doesn’t need too much time or tough preparation, the DeoriaTal – Chandrashila trek is just right for you. Set in the peaceful Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, this 4-day journey (2 day drive + 2 day hike) offers forest trails, high-altitude temples, and stunning mountain views—all in one trip. It’s a great choice for beginners and nature lovers alike.

The trek starts from Sari village, a small and quiet place surrounded by hills. A short trek around 3 km takes you to the calm and beautiful DeoriaTal Lake, located at 8,000 ft. Local legends say the Pandavas from the Mahabharata once visited this spot. On a clear day, the lake reflects the snowy Chaukhamba mountains—a view that feels magical.

After visiting Deoriatal, we return to Sari village, rest for a while, and then begin our journey to the Tungnath – Chandrashila trek campsite, around 25 km away at Baniyakund, where we stay overnight at the campsite.

The next morning, we wake up early and drive 4–5 km to Chopta, from where the trek begins to Tungnath Temple (12,000 ft) and Chandrashila Peak (13,000 ft).

Tungnath Temple is one of the Panch Kedar, a group of five sacred temples linked to the Pandavas and Lord Shiva. Covered in snow during winter and wrapped in mist during monsoon, the temple feels timeless and divine.

From Chopta, the trek to Tungnath Temple is about 3.5 km, and from there, it’s another 1.5 km to Chandrashila Peak, also known as the ‘Moon Rock’.

Chandrashila offers a breathtaking 360-degree view
of the majestic Himalayan ranges — including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Kedar Dome, and Bandarpunch.
According to legend, Chandra Dev meditated here after being cursed by Daksh Prajapati, adding a deep spiritual significance to this already stunning spot.

What makes this trek special is how easy and beginner-friendly it is. You don’t need to be super fit or experienced. The trails are clear, the altitude is moderate, and the both trek can be done in just 1+1 days.

Whether you want to watch the sunrise from a mountain top, visit ancient temples, or simply enjoy the fresh mountain air and silence of the forest, the DeoriaTal–Chandrashila Trek gives you an experience you won’t forget.
