What to Skip - Common Mistakes (Do not carry these)
- Cotton clothes – cotton absorbs moisture and takes forever to dry, dangerous in cold and wet conditions
- Denim jeans – heavy, restrictive, takes days to dry
- Too many clothes – most trekkers overpack clothing, 2-3 sets of quick dry clothes are enough for any trek
- Full size toiletries – decant into small travel bottles
- Laptop or heavy electronics – leave them at home
- Glass bottles – heavy and breakable
Pro Tips
- Pack your bag the night before, never the morning of your trek
- Heaviest items go closest to your back and near the top of your pack
- Waterproof your bag contents using dry bags or simple plastic bags inside
- Break in your trekking shoes at least 2-3 weeks before your trek, never wear brand new shoes on day one
- Keep your headlamp, snacks, water and rain cover accessible in the top pocket, not buried inside
